Behavior Consultations
Where Hope & Healing Begins

Behavior Consultations can be scheduled at your home, a private location or by virtual consult.

This consultation is extensive and will take about two hours. It is not only an opportunity for me to make assessments & gather information to develop a strategic plan for the individual situation — it is detailed information for you. This dog behavior consultation & assessment will be the foundation on which we build a strategy & game plan for resolution.

Behavior Consulting specializes in complex behavioral issues such as aggression, leash reactivity, fear, separation anxiety and resource guarding.  Consults include multi-dog household issues, compulsive behaviors, adjusting to a new home (for rescued / adopted / re-homed dogs)

At a private appointment I will take a thorough history on your dog and any issues you are having. Next, we discuss options for modifying and managing behaviors in a humane, positive way. Handouts are provided along with specific exercises for you to work on and implement. A follow-up appointment is often recommended in order to evaluate progress and continue with training.

My training is rooted in what is best for the individual dog. I believe that management and setting up the environment so that we can stop the repetition of unwanted behaviors comes first. Each animal shows you what they find valuable or reinforcing and we utilize these things to create the behaviors we want to see. We set up dogs for success. I don’t use fear, force or corrections to get behaviors that we want or to get rid of behaviors we don’t want. I use the science of dog training to assess and adjust every step of the way. Everything that we do with dogs is something that anybody can reproduce, there is no need for special energy, special stance, or even a take charge attitude. We create a relationship between people and their dogs.

Training is based on trust, respect, understanding, and a utilization of science to create changes in behavior. We train both ends of the leash using these same beliefs. Each person’s journey with their dog is unique, with specific goals and challenges.

Each situation is unique and requires an initial consultation to discuss details, determine the training plan, and then the best way to implement behavior modification and training.

Training Your Best Friend is your partner in working through the most difficult behavior problems with your dog. We help you understand the situation, set realistic goals for improvement, and follow customized protocols..
